Kneepad Jones

Another perp that I snagged already painted from Ebay some years ago - Kneepad Jones from the Citadel range. I've managed to fit in a little more time with Judge Giant of late (well, a couple of hours) and I'll post a report in the next few days. I think I've cracked the greens, the reds, the details, but I'm not happy with the yellows as yet.

Cursed Earth No.1

Two denizens of the Cursed Earth, both from the original Citadel Judge Dredd range - "Morgair" and "Three Eyes". I didn't paint these, but picked them up off Ebay a while ago : nicely painted in enamels, simply needing re-basing and a coat of Testors Dullcote to remove the "Humbrol shine". Sometimes you strike lucky and the ubiquitous slogan "pro painted" actually means something ! In contrast to my blue/grey MC-1 colour scheme, I did the bases in a "Khemri desert" colour scheme : GW Snakebite Leather basecoat, followed by highlights of GW Bubonic Brown and GW Bleached Bone, with the base rim painted in GW Graveyard Earth.

Giant Update No.2

Slow progress on Judge Giant, and my photo-fu appears to have deserted me for this shot. Anyway, base highlighted further; uniform retouched GW Regal Blue, highlighted with GW Regal Blue/GWUltramarine Blue mix, grey parts done in GW Chaos Black/GW Codex Grey mix, followed by straight GW Codex Grey; yellows started with a basecoat of GW Vermin Brown/Bestial Brown mix, followed by a starting coat of GW Leprous Brown.

Sterling Sheene - Moto Tapper

Work has kept me well away from Judge Giant over the last three weeks, but I've picked up this rather nice Heroclix figure from Ebay. This is Sterling Sheene the Moto Tapper, or the "Poor Cit's Chopper". Sterling dreams of winning Supersurf, but is so broke that he can't even afford a board. A life of law breaking seems the only way out for Sterling, so he uses a motorised skateboard to tap MC-1's wealthier citizens and help in his high speed getaways. The figure itself (including that newly acquired handbag) needs quite a lot of work to make it table ready, but I'll get round to him after I've finished Giant : the only question is whether Sterling will finish up in the cubes before he can buy that board....

Giant Update No.1

Progress Report : At the "dull first stage", laying in the basic flesh, blues, greens and the red helmet stripe. Flesh is GW Scorched Brown. Red stripe is GW Foundation Red. Green is GW Foundation Orkhide with a layer of GW Snot Green on top, washed with Green Wash. Blue is GW Foundation Necron Abyss (like the now OOP GW Midnight Blue) with a layer of GW Regal Blue and some GW Regal Blue/Enchanted Blue highlights, washed with GW Blue Wash. Base is GW Shadow Grey highlighted with GW Spacewolf Grey.
Lessons : (1). need more highlights on the base; (2). GW Blue Wash is strong and dries glossy if applied in too great a quantity; (3). GW Orkhide is a great Foundation Paint, cutting out the laborious GW Dark Angels Green/GW Snot Green/GW Goblin Green approach.
Next stages : highlighting the red stripe, blues, greens and base. Getting into the greys and the base yellows, which will really make a difference.

Robo-Tex 2

And as a paint guide for my new Robo-Judge Pepper, here is the Texas Judge from the Foundry website, as painted by Kevin Dallimore. Blues, greens, yellows - all similar to Judge Giant.

Robo-Tex

Reaper have some truly great figures for the Dredd RPG in their "Chronoscope" line. I had to purchase this mini -"John Bishop, Space Marshall" - as he looks just like a cyborg-ed Texas City Judge. Truly scrotnig, earthlets ! Definitely my next project after Giant; I've already re-christened him as "Robo-Judge Pepper" in tribute to Sheriff J.W. Pepper, just as he appeared in "Live and Let Die"....

Standing on the Shoulders of Giant

This is my blog dedicated to painting and modelling 28mm characters from the world of Judge Dredd and the pages of 2000AD. I'm starting with a record of my attempts to paint one of my favourite characters from the early years of 2000AD - Judge Giant.
Here is the old Citadel figure of Judge Giant cleaned, undercoated with Citadel Chaos Black spraypaint, and neatly based on an original Citadel hexagonal base.
